Hello! I'm Anna Seed.

I'm an artist and illustrator based in Melbourne (Naarm), and I make whimsical art inspired by the natural world — especially the small, wonderful creatures most people walk straight past.

Growing up in beautiful Tasmania, I spent much of my childhood outdoors, watching little critters go about their busy lives among the plants and flowers. Those quiet hours observing echidnas, fairy wrens, beetles and fungi planted something in me — a deep love for the overlooked magic of the natural world, and a belief that even the smallest creatures have stories worth telling.

The Work

My illustrations imagine a world where wombats curl up with good books, toads do the laundry, beetles wear boots, and mushroom bands play concerts in the forest. Inspired by folklore, fairy tales, and the tradition of classic storybook illustration, I try to create work that feels warm, cosy, and just a little bit magical — like the best stories you were read as a child, but with a quirky, humorous twist.

I work primarily in watercolour and ink, building up layers of fine detail to create richly textured illustrations. Each piece starts as pencil sketches in my studio, and many of the animals and plants I draw are species I've encountered in the wild — from Tasmanian spotted quolls to the superb fairy wrens that visit my Melbourne garden.

Australian Wildlife, Reimagined

A thread running through all my work is a love for Australian native wildlife. While cottagecore and whimsical illustration are beloved aesthetics worldwide, I wanted to bring that same sense of warmth and wonder to the animals that are uniquely ours — wombats, echidnas, sugar gliders, banjo frogs, magpies, and all the other extraordinary creatures that call Australia home. My art prints, stickers, greeting cards, and stationery are designed to bring a little of that magic into your everyday life.

From Studio to Your Walls

Every art print in the shop is produced on beautiful archival-quality paper, printed locally in Melbourne. I personally pack and post each order from my studio — you might even find a little sketch tucked inside.
